A Glimpse of Memory My fondness for walnut cookies stems from Grandma. They were her favorite treat, a memory etched in time. A small neighborhood store sold a pack of six for 40 NTD. She would carefully retrieve a worn 50 NTD bill from her coin purse, folded in half, then in half again. I'd eagerly volunteer to buy them for her, knowing the change could get me a pack of Doublemint gum. Grandma's purse was old and small, its patterns barely discernible. It carried a faint scent of VapoRub and menthol balm, much like the aroma of her clothes. Walnut cookies were Grandma's favorite. I like to think I was hers too.
