As one of the most prominent symbols in Ancient Egypt, the Sacred Scarab is commonly accepted to have originated from the Dung Beetle because of its unique behavior of pushing animal feces into balls and saving them for their larvae’s nutrition supplies. The rolling of balls and life coming out from the balls thus signifies rebirth and regeneration. It is interesting to find that winged scarab artifacts are specifically popular among funerary amulets because it is believed that the wings will ensure the rebirth of the deceased and a smooth transition into the afterlife.
Although death usually is quite far from our daily lives, we think that humans can experience multiple spiritual death and rebirth in our lifetimes. It is essential for any major personal growth. Conceptually speaking, we can all be pushing our own baggage and worries, until one day we learn to take nutrition out of it, fueling our rebirth into a better self. All we hope is that we have the power of the star and moon, which signifies direction and release, to guide us through the process of regeneration.
