This Maneki-neko design perfectly presents the elegance of a maiko and the magnificence of Mount Fuji. 🎎
Maiko Elements: The Maneki-neko's clothing design is inspired by maiko, featuring a gorgeous kimono with a blue base and red and yellow accents, adorned with floral and geometric patterns, symbolizing the refinement and elegance of Kyoto geishas. 💃 Its makeup also reflects the characteristics of maiko, such as red lipstick and black eyeliner, adding a touch of playfulness and traditional charm.
Mount Fuji motif: A depiction of Mount Fuji is subtly visible on the kimono, paired with pine trees and cherry blossoms, symbolizing Japan's natural beauty and eternal good fortune. ⛰️ This design is not only aesthetically pleasing but also embodies the hope for peace and prosperity.
The beckoning cat's raised paw, adorned with a yellow bell, traditionally symbolizes good luck and wealth, complementing the elegant demeanor of the maiko. 💰
The black ears and painted flowers add a three-dimensional effect, while the yellow cherry blossom wallpaper in the background harmonizes with the beckoning cat design, creating a rich Japanese atmosphere. 🌺
Cultural Significance
This beckoning cat combines the art of maiko with the sanctity of Mount Fuji, reflecting the Japanese culture's reverence for nature and humanity. Maiko represent Kyoto's traditional arts, while Mount Fuji symbolizes the Japanese spirit; their fusion endows this piece with both auspicious and aesthetic value. 🎉 This Kiyomizu-yaki piece is not merely a decoration but also a tribute to traditional Japanese craftsmanship and culture.
Made in Japan
Kiyomizu-yaki Introduction
"Kyo-yaki" is a type of pottery that originated in the tea ceremony and spread primarily in the foothills of Higashiyama during the early Edo period. "Kiyomizu-yaki," on the other hand, refers to pottery made at Gojo-zaka, the entrance to Kiyomizu-dera Temple. Currently, all pottery made in Kyoto is called "Kyo-yaki/Kiyomizu-yaki."
This type of glaze, known as crystalline glaze, is characterized by crystal precipitation during melting and cooling, resulting in beautiful flower-shaped crystalline vessels that appear as if flowers have bloomed on their surface. Most importantly, the crystals enlarge and take on various shapes. Moreover, no two designs can be made the same; each piece is a unique work of art.
