■ Masuse Chusho Style Enshi (Round Divination Discs)
Material: Oak
Size: Diameter approx. 22mm
Quantity: 18 pieces
Wood Grain: The shade will vary depending on the section of the scrap wood used, but we use parts with as much clarity as possible.
This is a divination method called Enshi, which was used by the genius I Ching scholar Masuse Chusho during the mid to late Edo period, after studying under Arai Hakuga. It has been revived as a modern version. The material is hard oak, cut and polished into go-ishi (Go stones) shapes. While some people substitute with real go-ishi and write on them, we prefer to use wooden ones. This method involves casting a full hexagram at once, designating black characters as Yang and red characters as Yin (※The setting of Yin and Yang is flexible). You mix them in your hand and cast them, arranging them as shown in the photo, within an octagonal tray used for dice, or in a space with a certain area (※possible within the included wooden box if done carefully). Then, you determine Yin and Yang sequentially from the first line to derive the full hexagram and its related hexagram.
※ Includes a wooden box
※ Divining rods are not included.
