Vintage Damascus Brooch

The Damascene style originated in the historic city of Damascus in the Middle East, and later spread to Toledo, Spain and Kyoto, Japan due to war and international trade. People like to combine flowers and birds in a freely spiralling and intertwined way into patterns, which is gorgeous and has a mysterious totem feeling. Damascus jewellery is predominantly gold-black or silver-black, and the pre-production process is to first insert gold and silver threads into the alloy to carve out the pattern, then continuously hammer until the gold leaf completely penetrates the pattern texture, and then bake the oxidized background to black. Damascus is mostly graphic design, but some of the earlier works are more concave, and like this brooch, the image of the golden dragon in the middle is embossed.
