This piece of jewelry is inspired by the gold leaf of the laurel crown worn by Napoleon when he was crowned at Notre Dame Cathedral on December 2, 1804.
This crown appeared in various paintings of the emperor wearing a coronation costume or the coronation ceremony itself. It was painted by David and was destroyed during the restoration.
When the painter Jean-Baptiste Isabey put a crown on the emperor, a leaf fell off. Napoleon asked him to keep it.
This leaf is piously preserved by Isabel and is the only remaining souvenir of the crown.
