Poet's Background: Lu You, a patriotic poet of the Southern Song Dynasty, is renowned for his patriotic sentiments and vivid descriptions of his homeland. In his later years, he retired to his hometown in Shanyin, dedicating himself to poetry and garden life, leaving behind numerous works depicting idyllic rural retreats. "Early Summer in Seclusion" is a portrayal of his secluded life. The poem blends scenery with emotion, using "pavilions by the pond" and "waterside retreats" alongside "wind and sun" and "grass and trees" to paint a picture of a tranquil and elegant summer garden, reflecting his inner peace and detachment.
