This open bangle is made with handmade silver and Job's tears. It resembles flower garlands, for Thais, is a symbol of honouring, love and generosity. Each side of the bangle comprised of 8 job's tear tassles which represents the noble eightfold path concept (an awakened human being's strategy to enlightenment). The Pagoda (chedi) on top of tassel with three revolving beads where the top and bottom beads’ surfaces are rough and while those of the middle bead is smooth reflects the Middle Path that is unique to each and everyone of us (Buddhist view of life and attitudes that will create happiness for oneself and others). While Job's tears beads express the local costumes and Karen hill tribe's way of life and represents prosperity. Usually it is used as a decorative aspect on the Karen hill tribe’s clothing.
All parts, including the tiny beads used for the tassels, are handmade one by one and stringed through a meticulous and ancient process of silver bead making tradition, typical of Thai Karen hill tribe people. It is a laborious process that only few families still master in the northern Thai village in Lamphun province, which is where our workshop is located.
With our silver jewelry we aim to explore and share the process of mindfulness, dedication and perseverance that is incorporated in every item we produce. We would like to transmit these ideas to whoever will be wearing our jewelry as a reminder of conscientiousness during their everyday activities.
We believe that jewelry created in this way does more than just ''look good'', it also ''does good'' and gives back to the whole community, as the sales help preserve and keep alive the traditional arts and crafts of the Karen hill tribe people.
