【Zhaozhuang Zhuni - Da Hong Pao | Golden Zhuni】
Zhaozhuang Zhuni originates from the Zhaozhuang mine in Dingshu Town, Yixing, and is also known as "Golden Zhuni." The raw ore appears earthy yellow, with hints of red, interspersed with pale blue-white tender clay. Its texture is loose and fine, easily disintegrating when in contact with water.
It has a lower quartz content and a higher clay proportion, with a shrinkage rate that can reach 25%~30% or more. This makes it extremely challenging to form, earning it the reputation of "ten teapots, nine cracks," and is considered a rare and highly demanding clay among Zhuni varieties.
After firing, it displays a dark red to orange-red hue, with a restrained and steady color that is finely textured and lustrous on the surface. When hot water is poured over it, the color becomes more vibrant and bright, exuding a jade-like sheen.
Brewing tea with Zhaozhuang Zhuni enhances the tea's aroma, allowing it to rise and linger without dissipating, while the flavor becomes mellow and full. With long-term use and care, the teapot's surface gradually transforms into a flush red, becoming warm and lustrous like jade, with rich layers of patina, highly favored by experienced collectors and tea enthusiasts.
【Pottery Lore】
This design was innovatively created by Mr. Lu Yaochen, a contemporary Master of Chinese Arts and Crafts and a titan of Zisha pottery, in the late 20th century. The inspiration draws from the classic imagery of Maitreya Buddha (the Cloth Bag Monk) in Buddhism. Because Maitreya Buddha is known for his "big belly that can accommodate all things difficult to accommodate in the world," Master Lu incorporated his full-bellied form into the round Zisha teapot, creating this modern classic masterpiece.
【Frequently Asked Questions QA】
1. How to prepare the teapot before first use?
Clean the inside and outside thoroughly, preferably with a vegetable scrub sponge. Do not use chemical agents. Simply rinse with water, and it is ready for use.
2. How to maintain the teapot?
After use, keep it clean and dry to prevent tea stains from accumulating. Place it in a ventilated area after use. If storing it in its box for an extended period, allow it to air dry naturally for 1-2 months to ensure sufficient evaporation of moisture from the pores, otherwise, it may mold.
3. How to clean tea stains or mold?
Soak with an enzyme cleaner.
4. How to warm the teapot correctly?
In cold weather or after prolonged disuse, pour 40°C warm water over the inside and outside of the teapot, then fill the teapot. This allows the Zisha pores to fully absorb moisture.
5. How to care for pieces with engravings?
For teapots with engravings, it is recommended to clean them with a soft brush.
