Marbling refers to the combination of clays in different colors. Patterns are assembled like sushi rolls into a long cylinder using differently colored clays. Slicing this cylinder reveals multiple clay pieces with similar patterns, which are then molded into dishes. Tableware made using the marbling technique possesses unique characteristics: patterns appear on both the front and back. Due to the marbling method, natural pattern distortions occur during the process, such as warping and twisting, as if the patterns are alive and moving!
Made with Japanese porcelain clay, fired at 1230°C.
