Founded in 1587 by the Order of Preachers (Dominicans), this was the first Dominican church in China. Originally built with wooden planks, it was known to the Chinese as the "Plank Shrine" and later as the "Plank Zhang Temple." Because the church honors Our Lady of the Rosary, it also became known as the "Rosary Church." The entire church is sumptuously built, with its Baroque-style altar being particularly elegant and refined. Adjacent to the church, the "Treasures of Sacred Art" houses over three hundred precious artifacts from Macau's Catholic history.
