However, like silver, brass can oxidize, darkening in color due to exposure to water, sweat, and air. While some appreciate this natural patina, here are a few tips to prevent it: ♦ Avoid contact with water. ♦ Store in a zip-lock bag when not being worn. If the luster dulls, the following simple methods can help restore your item's original shine. Please note that while color can be restored, lost brilliance due to scratches may not be fully recovered (though the vintage matte bronze look is also quite beautiful!). ♦ Gently scrub with a toothbrush dipped in a small amount of foaming toothpaste or tooth powder, similar to brushing your teeth, to restore shine. Be sure to dry thoroughly after cleaning. ♦ Use a silver polishing cloth for a quick shine (not suitable for brushed finishes). ♦ Dilute lemon juice, soak the brass item for about 5 minutes, and it will quickly regain its luster (not suitable for natural beads like pearls that are sensitive to acid).
