Shui Fei Sand, Imperial Sand, Zi Jin Sand, and Crystal Sand are all high-content quality cinnabar. Their **primary differences lie in color, texture, hardness, and production methods**.
**「Shui Fei Sand」**
**A true red, with a slight orange undertone. Its surface has a warm, matte luster that will become shinier with wear, developing a patina.**
The production method involves repeatedly grinding cinnabar into fine particles to form a paste, mixing it with water, letting it settle, and then collecting the upper "turbid liquid." This is then allowed to settle again (the Shui Fei purification method). The bottom cinnabar mud is air-dried and then pressed using ancient techniques. Even on the cross-section, uniform, fine mineral flashes can be seen internally.
**「Imperial Sand」**
**A more vibrant red, with enhanced brilliance and higher hardness.**
The production method involves multiple stages of purification from natural raw cinnabar ore, including **crushing/grinding/magnetic separation/water-grinding/high polishing**, followed by ancient pressing techniques. Imperial Sand has almost no external mineral flashes but has them internally. The exterior is **high-polished** to achieve a metallic texture, especially under sunlight, where its metallic sheen is fully realized.
**「Zi Jin Sand」**
**A purplish-red hue, with slightly lower hardness than Imperial Sand.**
The production method involves multiple stages from natural raw cinnabar ore, including **crushing/grinding/screening**, but **without water purification**. Therefore, the surface is not as fine and has scattered small mineral flashes, creating a "starry sky" effect.
**「Crystal Sand」**
**A purplish-red color, translucent.**
Large cinnabar particles directly chipped from cinnabar ore. The crystal particles are clearly visible on the surface, and under light, they appear transparent, emitting a fluorescent red glow.
**> Spring Plowing, Autumn Harvest**
**In this world, all growth, all poetry, all beauty tend to unfold naturally, much like the turning of the seasons.**
**Learn to slow down, to quiet your mind, to approach life with gentleness, to respect the power of time, allowing everything to grow organically. Like a tree, focused and fearless, growing clear annual rings.**
**Our craftsmanship is thus!!**
**> Cinnabar**
The earliest written records mention cinnabar with a single character, "丹" (dān). "丹" is an ideogram. In ancient times, mineral pits were dug, and minerals were extracted from within. Thus, the character "丹" actually represents the character "井" (jǐng - well) with a dot in the middle, signifying something extracted from a dug mine. This something was cinnabar.
Because cinnabar is red, often a deep red, "朱" (zhū) also means red. Later, "丹砂" (dānshā) became known as cinnabar. "丹" and "朱" describe the color, and "砂" describes the shape, referring to irregular granular minerals.
Cinnabar's color is fade-resistant. Chinese calligraphy and painting are known as "丹青" (dānqīng), where "丹" refers to cinnabar. The "Eight Treasures Seal Paste," an indispensable pigment, also has cinnabar as its main component.
From a Feng Shui perspective, cinnabar is collected from minerals that have absorbed the essence of the sun and moon, absorbing the positive energy of heaven and earth. Therefore, cinnabar possesses a strong Yang energy magnetic field. We can observe that jade feels cool to the touch, while cinnabar held in the hand feels warm.
Since ancient times, cinnabar has been used in Daoist rituals for drawing talismans, consecrating objects, warding off evil, and suppressing negative energies. Cinnabar has always been regarded as a supreme treasure for improving luck, suppressing misfortune, driving away evil, attracting blessings, and accumulating wealth. It carries auspicious meanings of overwhelming good fortune and prosperous health.
The "Shennong Ben Cao Jing" (Classic of Materia Medica) lists cinnabar as a superior herb, often used in medicinal treatments for calming the spirit, detoxification, and alleviating insomnia and excessive dreaming.
Living in the modern era, owning one or two cinnabar artifacts can also cultivate one's character and nourish the eyes and mind.
**> Identification**
**All cinnabar products in this store are high-content cinnabar and have a strong sense of weight. The following methods can be used for identification:**
>. Burning cinnabar will turn it black. (Please heat it indirectly. It is generally not recommended to burn the finished product directly as it is difficult to control the time and area. If it turns black after prolonged heating, it cannot be restored.)
>. Real cinnabar can draw an orange-red line on paper. (To avoid damaging the appearance of the finished product, please choose an inconspicuous area to draw the line, or use the provided free bead to draw the line.)
**> Care**
1. Avoid Corrosion
Cinnabar is a mineral and does not dissolve in water. However, frequent contact with chemicals such as soap and shower gel can corrode cinnabar.
2. Avoid Contact with Metal Objects
The mineral elements in cinnabar can absorb metal ions, causing irreversible darkening or blackening of the cinnabar.
3. Avoid High Temperatures
The mercury sulfide component of cinnabar only releases at temperatures of 380 degrees Celsius. Therefore, as long as you avoid exposing cinnabar jewelry to high-temperature environments, you can wear it with confidence.
4. Avoid Collisions with Hard or Sharp Objects.
Cinnabar has high hardness but is brittle. Please handle with care to prevent drops.
5. How to Clean
If your cinnabar appears dirty, do not soak it in water, as this can alter its original luster! You can gently wipe it a few times with a slightly damp cotton cloth and let it air dry.
6. Oiling for Maintenance
Apply a layer of white tea oil or olive oil to the finished product, allowing the stone surface to absorb the oil, making it more lustrous and clear. If applying oil, you can then seal it in a brocade box, perhaps wrapped in plastic wrap to prevent the oil from staining the brocade lining.
7. Frequent Handling
Regularly handle the cinnabar jewelry worn on your person with your hands. This allows a thin layer of natural oils from your skin to adhere to the surface, giving it an even more antique and elegant appearance over time.
The actual item is more refined and beautiful than the photos.
