Literati Rock-Planted Itoigawa Shimpaku Bonsai
This is not merely about placing a plant on a rock.
Through meticulous observation and a deep understanding of the plant's growth habits, the designer
integrates the foliage onto the rugged Ryugan stone,
creating a unique artistic form.
Through the designer's careful cultivation and design,
the plant and the Ryugan stone become interdependent, complementing each other
to create a vibrant, miniature landscape.
Bonsai Care
Itoigawa Shimpaku thrives in warm, humid environments with ample sunlight.
It should be placed in a location that receives plenty of sunlight and has good air circulation.
Good air circulation helps reduce the incidence of pests and diseases.
Shimpaku are extremely heliophilic; sufficient sunlight encourages dense foliage buds and a vibrant green color.
During the intense heat of summer, strong direct sunlight can cause scorching.
Consider using a shade net or moving the plant to a shaded area
to prevent overexposure and maintain its optimal growth state.
Pinching and thinning the leaves are essential for maintaining the cloud-like shape and ensuring light penetration and ventilation within the foliage.
Watering Method
Water when the surface soil feels dry.
The principle of watering is to water when dry, as Shimpaku prefers slightly moist conditions but dislikes waterlogging.
During the hot summer months, in addition to keeping the soil moist,
daily misting of the foliage can increase humidity, helping the scale leaves remain full and washing away dust.
Water slowly and evenly until water drains from the bottom of the pot, ensuring the entire soil mass is thoroughly moistened.
Avoid watering only the surface, which can lead to underwatered roots.
In the vigorous growing seasons of spring and summer, Shimpaku requires more water,
but avoid overwatering to prevent root rot.
In autumn and winter, Shimpaku's growth slows down,
and watering frequency should be reduced accordingly.
Allowing the plant to experience natural rainfall outdoors
will contribute to its healthier growth.
During the bonsai care process, moderate pruning and reshaping will be performed. The plant's appearance will change with the seasons, and the tree shape may vary slightly. Please feel free to inquire if you have any questions.
