Collection description
Castiglione (1688-1766 AD) was an Italian. He joined the Jesuits at the age of nineteen and studied painting and architecture. He came to China as a missionary at the age of twenty-seven and served in the inner court of the Qing Dynasty. He was good at using Western techniques to express objects, and the colors can be seen in the paintings. with light and shadow effects. This painting of a white falcon was painted by Castiglione using Western techniques. The eyes, even the white feathers, etc., can be seen with exquisite light and shadow effects. The pine trees and springs in the background should have been painted by other people who are good at traditional brushwork. This white falcon was painted by Fu Heng in the 10th year of Qianlong's reign. It was submitted in six years (1751) and was the work of Lang Shining when he was sixty-two years old.
