Made in Japan Hand-dyed Indigo Cotton Tapestry - Camellia Lady

"The Lady of the Camellias" Inspired by my love for the opera "La Traviata," based on the original work by Alexandre Dumas fils, I created this design using traditional indigo dyeing. The process involves tie-dyeing (Shibori) to capture the soft glow of moonlight, followed by a discharge technique (Bassen) to draw the delicate lines, and finally, a stencil brushing technique (Kata-zuri-zome) to apply the colors. "Kata-zuri-zome" (Stencil Brushing) A traditional Japanese dyeing method where a stencil is fixed onto the fabric and dye is brushed in manually. This refined technique is often used in Edo Sarasa and Kata-Yuzen. The tapestry features sleeves at the top and bottom for inserting hanging poles. Please note that this sale is for the tapestry only. Hanging poles are not included. Each piece is hand-dyed and discharged individually, ensuring that no two are alike.
