**|| Three Generations of Rush Fragrance, Three Generations of Weaving ||**
"XiQuan" is a natural rush hand-weaving shop in Dajia, Taichung, founded in 1947 by Grandpa Guo XiQuan with products woven from Taiwanese rush. During their time living in New Zealand, the third generation experienced the profound sense of cultural identity and pride among the Māori people and local residents. Captivated by this spirit, they gained new perspectives on life, reflecting on their connection to their homeland and Taiwan. Shortly after returning to Taiwan, they rejoined the family business and began learning the craft of weaving. In 2019, they named the shop after their grandfather and opened a branch in Taichung's ShenJi New Village, carrying on his passion for weaving.
At XiQuan, you'll find the third generation who loves weaving, her mother, and crucially, a group of grandmothers and aunts who share a deep love for weaving. Together, they preserve traditional culture and develop innovative designs.
XiQuan's third generation weaves the rich culture of their homeland, continuing authentic craftsmanship. The natural texture, a gift from nature, reflects their affection for home. With the intention of creating items they would use for their own family, they craft everyday objects through traditional artistry.

| Origin
Central Taiwan - Lower reaches of the Daan River, Dajia in Taichung and Yuanli in Miaoli
| Characteristics
Breathable and cooling
Moisture-wicking
And, of course, a unique natural fragrance~
Native to central Taiwan, Taiwanese rush possesses a captivating natural aroma.
Historically, rush was primarily used for weaving sleeping mats, hence its nickname "sedge." It is highly absorbent, breathable, and smooth against the skin, offering a cool sensation upon touch. With continued use, it develops a beautiful sheen over time, embodying the essence of natural fibers in daily life.
Taiwan boasts nearly three hundred years of rush weaving culture. Each item is meticulously hand-woven by local grandmothers and aunts, imbued with the spirit of Taiwan.
**|| The Rush Weaving Process ||**
Growth | 3-4 months
Sun-drying | After harvesting, sun-dried for approximately 2-4 months until completely dry
Sorting | Graded by length, with partial tips removed
Selection | Grass is chosen for uniform thickness before weaving
Trimming | Unfinished leaf parts at the grass tips are removed
Beating | The structure of the grass is altered to make it softer and easier to weave
For finer items, two additional steps are involved: "Splitting" (dividing the triangular rush stalks into two or three finer strands) and "Kneading" (rubbing to remove the white fiber from within the rush).
**|| A Little Story About Taiwanese Rush ||**
Grandmothers and mothers tell stories of how people used to cultivate rush.
They cherished the dark, lustrous finish of the rush.
Typically, the color change to this deep hue occurred naturally with use over time.
However, some individuals sought to accelerate this transformation, intentionally wiping the rush with tea water to deepen its color.
