French Art Nouveau Sterling Silver Handle Custom Large Engraved Letter Opener This is a rare and exquisite letter opener from the French Art Nouveau period. The handle bears the French sterling silver Minerva hallmark, and the overall design is exceptionally elegant, adorned with the distinctive swirling floral motifs characteristic of Art Nouveau. At the base of the handle, there is what appears to be a Gothic initial monogram from the original owner, seemingly "LD". According to the manufacturer, this letter opener originates from a dismantled estate in the Parisian suburbs. Two such pieces were found at the time, both with identical monograms. Upon acquisition, the handles were as dark as charcoal but have since been meticulously restored to reveal their original, elegant luster.
