By carefully controlling the thickness of each glaze application and firing at 1260°C, the cup undergoes a 20-hour transformation in the kiln. This intense heat allows the glaze to shrink and flow, creating the intricate patterns and fluid movement reminiscent of peacock feathers. The challenge in its creation lies in the precise control of glaze thickness and the temperature curve during firing. If the glaze is too thin or the temperature too low, the characteristic peacock feather pattern will not emerge. Conversely, if the glaze is too thick or the temperature too high, it can run onto the kiln shelf, potentially damaging both the cup and the shelf. Even ambient temperature fluctuations can influence the final outcome. Despite years of dedicated practice, mastering these variables remains an ongoing pursuit, which is precisely what imbues each finished piece with its precious rarity.
