Material Selection "Cut Line School" currently uses only top-grade, high-fat vegetable-tanned leather from Italy. As it is a natural material, and the tannery uses processing methods that cause minimal damage to the leather, the hide may inevitably have minor "scars," "wrinkles," or "veins." We do our best to avoid these areas during cutting or place them in less visible or non-load-bearing parts of the product. 2. Hand-Stitched Seams We do not use sewing machines for our products; all items are meticulously hand-stitched. Before stitching, special awls are used to punch sewing holes in the leather, which is how the beautiful wavy stitch effect is achieved, distinguishing it from machine stitching. Although this significantly increases production time, it is a crucial step where leather artisans imbue the piece with soul and a warm, tactile feel. 3. Hand-Burnished Edges Before finishing, the leather edges are burnished and sealed. To ensure the edges appear smooth, rounded, and natural, "Cut Line School" employs its own unique edge-finishing method. First, sandpaper is used to repeatedly smooth the sharp edges. Then, an edge-finishing liquid is applied to create a flat appearance, repeated 2-3 times. Finally, an edge-finishing wax is applied, and the edges are repeatedly burnished with a polishing tool until they achieve a smooth finish. 4. Hand-Dyed Leather For its hand-dyed products, "Cut Line School" currently uses imported Fiebing's leather alcohol dyes from the USA. To achieve even and natural coloring, we first dampen the leather surface with water. Then, using a sponge, we apply the dye layer by layer, from light to deep, until the desired color is achieved. After drying, a color-fixing agent is applied to enhance colorfastness. We also apply water to the leather surface to wipe away surface dust and further even out the color. As the dyeing process is entirely done by hand, there are subtle variations in color between each bag, making every piece unique.
