This piece is truly exceptional, differing from the typical hinged or cigar-shaped cigar cases commonly found. Its design features a unique top-opening mechanism. The CR.WS maker's mark is frequently seen in auctions, and this cigar case is indeed a product of their exquisite craftsmanship. The cigar case is impressively substantial, offering a reassuring feel in hand and excellent sealing capabilities. The front is adorned with a meticulously hand-engraved scene, depicting two elegantly attired individuals on horseback. A closer look reveals one of them holding a rabbit, a testament to the fine detail of the carving. The reverse side is marked with the initials "JCP" and features intricate decorative patterns throughout. It is remarkably rare for a cigar case crafted 173 years ago to remain in such complete condition. Charles Rawlings and William Summers formed their partnership in the early 19th century. Their mark first appeared in 1817, and they were active in the silversmithing industry for several decades. Their collaborative pieces are typically marked "CR & WS," signifying Charles Rawlings and William Summers. Their silverware met the high standards of craftsmanship of the era, suitable for the upper class and aristocracy.
