1810s French Agate and Citrine Brooch Converted Pendant

This pendant has been meticulously transformed from two early 19th-century stickpins, originating from France circa the 1810s. Crafted entirely in sterling silver with an 18k gold bail, it is adorned with agate and citrine. The original pieces were stickpins. This type of pin features a decorative motif directly attached to a long, straight pin, lacking a clasp. They were commonly worn by men to secure neckerchiefs (stock ties) or cravats, reaching peak popularity in the 18th century. Later, they were also used on ties or suit lapels, serving more as ornamentation than a functional fastening. The upper part of the pendant showcases a piece of agate with natural textures. Its semi-translucent quality, enhanced by an open-back setting, allows the nuanced patterns to appear more luminous and layered. The frame is detailed with intricate floral motifs, harmonizing with the agate's opulent grain for a rich aesthetic. Dangling below is a citrine, set using a立体 (collet setting) technique resembling origami. The vibrant, full hue of the citrine is intensified by foil backing, making it more lustrous. Its teardrop silhouette and warm color create a balanced continuity with the earthy tones of the agate above. Overall, this piece is in good antique condition, displaying normal signs of oxidation and wear commensurate with its age. Remnants of the modification are visible on the reverse. The foil backing beneath the citrine shows minor creasing. Please note this is a century-old antique item, not a new piece.
