Red is a color symbolizing auspiciousness and good fortune. Therefore, a red lucky cat carries even greater auspicious meaning, bringing blessings. A joyous red lucky cat that brings good fortune—how could one not adore it?
Purple Gold Sand is made by pressing cinnabar granules using traditional methods. Its color is purplish-red, with scattered silver specks on the surface, which are not impurities. The fractured surface reveals visible crystal granules and a vitreous luster. It is harder than raw cinnabar, and its fracture surface shows fibrous, irregular patterns. Its price has been steadily rising in the market over the past two years, making it a mainstream choice for cinnabar jewelry.

▪ The Origin of the Five-Colored Thread
The five-colored thread, also known as the "five-viscera thread" or "longevity thread," is also called the Vajra thread. Its characteristic is being woven from five different colored fine threads into a "cord." The five colors—yellow, cyan, white, black, and red—represent the ancient Chinese concept of the Five Elements: Earth, Wood, Metal, Water, and Fire; as well as the "Five Directions": Center, East, West, North, and South. Therefore, it is believed to ward off plagues from all directions, evil spirits of the seasons, and the harm of the five poisonous creatures. It is also known as "five-colored silk" or "five-colored cord." From Song dynasty poetry, we know that this item for warding off evil became an adornment and a symbol of love and marital bliss, also called "concentric threads." In some parts of China, wearing it from the Dragon Boat Festival extends to the Qixi Festival, evolving into the "Daughters' Festival" where pomegranate flowers are worn with colorful silk threads. Regional customs vary; in the north, it is often called "harmony thread" or "concentric thread," while in the south, to ward off evil and pray for blessings, the names "longevity thread" and "life-extending thread" are prevalent.
The fundamental scripture of Tang mi, the "Mahavairocana Sutra Commentary," details the practice of the "Vajra Thread Method": "To make a thread, one must select the finest threads, wash them with scented water until extremely clean, and have a pure virgin girl twist them together, combining the five colored threads. Each of the five Tathagata mantras should be used to hold one color, and then the general mantra for accomplishment should be used to bless them all." Its five colors are also called the "Five Tathagata Colors"—white, red, yellow, blue, and black—blessed by the mantras of Mahavairocana Buddha, Ratnakarma Buddha, Trailokyavijaya Buddha, Amitabha Buddha, and Divyadundubhi-nirghosa Buddha, respectively. The five colors also represent the five wisdoms of the Tathagatas—faith, diligence, mindfulness, concentration, and wisdom—that is, confidence, effort, right mindfulness, meditation, and wisdom. This method requires a master to perform a ritual, personally tying three knots into the thread to form a Vajra knot, which is then tied to the master's left arm, and also to the disciples who have entered the mandala to receive the Dharma, tied to their arms to bless disciples, remove obstacles, and increase the five roots of goodness.
