The reddish earthenware offers a rustic warmth and a slightly coarse texture, characteristic of clay-based pottery. After being molded into a charmingly rounded yunomi shape, it was fired with an application of a soft, off-white matte glaze and a vibrant Turkish blue glaze. This vessel allows you to enjoy its endearing, rounded form as well as the beautiful interplay of textures created by the clay and glazes. When cradled in both hands, the gentle curves of the cup fit comfortably in your palms. The interior, with its off-white hue, allows you to appreciate the colors of transparent beverages like green tea or black tea. Its wide form also lends itself to serving potage soup or acting as a small bowl for side dishes such as simmered greens or dressed vegetables. Each piece is meticulously handcrafted in my home studio, which is equipped with a small electric kiln and a potter's wheel. Every step, from kneading the clay to shaping, bisque firing, glazing, and final firing, is done by hand. While mass production isn't possible, each item possesses its own unique character, offering the distinct charm that comes from handmade craftsmanship. I continuously explore new combinations of various glazes and clays, creating a diverse range of pottery in different colors and shapes. To address this, we treat all our ceramic tableware with a food-safe sealant to ensure water resistance, so there's no need for you to perform a preliminary soaking (mezome). This sealing process takes 2-3 days, which is why our shipping timeframe is set at 5 days from order placement. If you prefer not to have the sealant applied, please let us know at the time of purchase. - The glazes' colors may appear lighter, closer to white, under natural morning light or white artificial lighting. Conversely, they might exhibit warmer red or yellow tones under evening light or warm-colored lighting. - Cutlery shown in product images is not included. - We strive to capture and edit product images to be as true to the actual item as possible.
