"If you really love it, you should plant it in the middle of a park so that it can have roots."
Léon: The Professional is a 1994 French film directed by Luc Besson. The story follows Mathilda, who has suffered long-term abuse. While running an errand to buy milk for her neighbor Léon, she narrowly escapes a confrontation with her abusive enemies. In a moment of crisis, Léon intervenes and saves her. Left alone, Mathilda discovers Léon's true identity as a hitman and asks him to take her under his wing. They begin living together, with Léon teaching her his professional skills, while Mathilda teaches Léon how to read. Eventually, Mathilda discovers that the corrupt DEA agent responsible for murdering her entire family, including her younger brother who was the only source of hope, is also involved in a dark conspiracy. This revelation fuels her desire for revenge.
For Mathilda, who grew up without familial love and is in her adolescence, the concept of love is willful and emotional. She yearns to be loved, loved fiercely. In contrast, Léon's capacity for love was seemingly extinguished early in his life by past traumas. Mathilda's passionate expressions of affection might be stirring a dormant desire for love within Léon. However, amidst the violent chaos, their pure love is ultimately consumed by the explosions.
