When growth is too rapid, the edges form before the faces have a chance to develop, and the next layer of edges begins to grow. These layered edges resemble window panes, which is why Skeleton Quartz is also known as Window Quartz. The amount of impurities absorbed during crystal growth, which eventually form inclusions, is related to its growth speed. When crystals grow slowly, they can repel impurities in front of the growing faces, resulting in fewer inclusions.
