✦ Notes
・Each piece of pottery is handmade, so there may be slight variations in size and glaze color intensity. Minor imperfections such as particles, small air bubbles, or black spots are characteristic of handmade pottery and should be considered before purchasing.
・All products are photographed in natural light, with efforts made to represent their original colors accurately. However, slight discrepancies may occur due to display screen variations.
・The colored glazes are food-safe and can be used with confidence.
✦ Care Instructions
・Before First Use
Place the pottery in a large pot, cover it with rice water, and simmer gently for 15-20 minutes. The starch in the rice water will fill the microscopic pores on the pottery's surface, enhancing its stain resistance. After cooling naturally, wash, dry, and air dry in a well-ventilated area before use.
・Daily Cleaning
Pottery has high water absorbency. It is recommended to wash items promptly after use and avoid prolonged soaking. Clean as you would any other tableware, then dry and air dry in a well-ventilated area.
・Avoid sudden temperature changes, such as rinsing with hot and cold water consecutively, to prevent cracking due to thermal shock.
✦ Brand Philosophy
During a particularly exhausting time, I came across the Japanese phrase "ほっと一息つきませんか?", which translates to "Would you like to take a moment to relax?". This phrase is typically used when suggesting a coffee break, a short trip, or unwinding after completing work.
Creating pottery offers a small space and time for respite amidst a busy life. Although pottery making involves constant facing of failures, having at least one thing you are passionate about, to which you can dedicate your full attention and energy, can bring a sense of calm to both mind and body. Thus, the brand was named "Hitoiki" (一息), a reminder to take a break, no matter how busy life gets.
It is my hope that the everyday items crafted by Hitoiki can accompany you in enjoying moments of ease and tranquility amidst your busy schedule.
