In 2018, "Wusih Creative," Taiwan's sole purveyor of card specialties, was honored by Kyoto's Shoyeido, becoming their official distributor in Taiwan. This marks a unique precedent globally, with a card specialty store appointed as a Shoyeido distributor.
Shoyeido, a renowned incense master from Kyoto, Japan, was established in 1705. With a legacy spanning over three centuries and now in its twelfth generation, the company continues to craft incense using traditional methods and natural ingredients. Many of Kyoto's most celebrated temples, including Kinkaku-ji, Ginkaku-ji, Tō-ji, and Kiyomizu-dera, use Shoyeido's incense sticks. The commemorative incense sold at these temples is also meticulously produced by Shoyeido. All incense sticks are handcrafted in their Kyoto workshops, adhering to ancient techniques. Furthermore, Shoyeido extends its commitment to quality across its entire product range, from burners to small incense rests and personal sachets, all manufactured in Japan using the finest materials.
Despite Shoyeido's considerable reputation both in Japan and internationally, they maintain a strict policy of only nine directly managed stores across Japan, eschewing franchise systems to ensure the highest quality of products and services. For their overseas presence, Shoyeido rigorously vets each distributor's business philosophy and practices, limiting the number of official distributors to safeguard their century-old reputation.
While incense sticks do not have an expiration date, Wusih Creative ensures Taiwanese enthusiasts can enjoy the freshest products by placing small, bi-monthly orders directly from the Kyoto headquarters to Taipei. This guarantees the optimal quality of the incense. Through this collaborative and trusting relationship with the head office, Wusih Creative is one of the few distributors authorized to offer Shoyeido's limited edition overseas incense and Japan-exclusive products.
Consequently, Wusih Creative has introduced seven distinct product lines, featuring nearly eighty different types of incense, alongside over sixty varieties of incense holders, dishes, and burners. This allows you to explore a wide selection of Shoyeido incense products without needing to travel to Kyoto.
Shoyeido incense burners are semi-handmade in Japan. Minor imperfections such as iron powder (black spots), glaze deficiencies, or uneven coloring may be present due to the hand-painted process. The fine powder used in the detailed application can sometimes appear white, reddish, or grayish, which are characteristic of the artisanal process and not defects. Variations in feel and color application are also part of the charm of handmade items, not flaws.
* As this is a fragile item, please handle with care. Once lit, for safety reasons, do not move the burner.
