A bracelet strung with ancient beads of two different materials.
1. Five Burmese Tiger Wood Beads.
Origin story from antique dealers: Due to the civil war in Myanmar, locals in Mandalay were in need of money in 2023. They brought out family heirlooms to exchange with antique brokers for cash to survive...
Material is petrified wood, with a hard texture that cannot be cut.
Under UV light, the white lines exhibit a fluorescent reaction.
What's particularly special about these wood beads is that the white inlaid lines are a result of a second coloring process.
These are not the third generation of wood beads made in 1940...
However, they are clearly old beads with a sense of age.
Old items are difficult to find...
After the merchant returned to Taiwan, they retailed them individually for upwards of NT$1,000 each...
2. Ten large Daron Curse Beads from a collapsed pagoda in Mandalay, Myanmar.
Dating based on accompanying artifacts unearthed with the pagoda, they likely date to the 18th-19th century.
These are Daron Curse Beads in the form of prayer beads with drilled holes.
The material is a copper alloy containing gold, though not in high proportions.
They have been cleaned to remove oxidation.
The beads appear bright yellow in photos, but will oxidize and darken over time if not polished.
The largest beads have an average diameter of 1.1-1.2 cm.
These prayer bead-style curse beads were typically strung in sets of 108 beads when placed in pagodas...
Due to the humid pagoda environment, the original strings have long since decomposed and broken.
Cinnabar was added and melted together during the refinement of Daron Curse Beads.
Possessing a powerful magnetic field, they are believed to suppress evil spirits and other yin entities, serving as potent protective amulets for warding off negativity and bringing good fortune.
They have also been used in foundations and for creating protective barriers.
Currently, some individuals use them for spiritual practices and meditation, or place them in home altars and vehicles to enhance Feng Shui and magnetic fields.
The bracelet measures 19.5cm in length with an inner diameter of 16cm.
This is a unique sacred item imbued with religious blessings.
