These spell beads originate from Buddhist temples and pagodas in Myanmar. Crafted from bronze alloy using a solid casting method. The exact age is unknown, but it is estimated to be from the 19th or 20th century. Upon arrival in Taiwan, they have been cleaned to remove oxidation. The beads appear bright yellow in photographs, but they will naturally oxidize and darken over time if not regularly handled or polished. The alloy composition of these beads contains gold, though in small proportions. Cinnabar was also incorporated during the smelting process. These beads are believed to possess a strong magnetic field, capable of suppressing malevolent spirits and negative energies. They are considered powerful protective talismans for warding off harm, creating sacred boundaries, and bringing good fortune. They have also been historically used for foundational blessings and for establishing protective circles. Currently, some individuals use them for spiritual practices and meditation. This suggests that Dharani beads are exceptionally rare and distinctive. Currently, we have gathered three interpretations from fellow antique dealers in Taiwan for your reference. The first interpretation, shared by a dealer from northern Taiwan, suggests they represent Mercury Dharani beads. The second interpretation, from a dealer specializing in spell beads, posits that the totems depict celestial patterns, symbolizing cosmic bodies like the sun and moon. The third interpretation, a hypothesis from a dealer in central Taiwan, proposes that these are the initial forms of an ancient Burmese script, holding profound and specific meanings from that era.
