Chocolate glasses
Also known as “Number 8 Chocolate”. These glasses were wrapped in foil shaped like the number 8. Adding an elastic on both ends, it becomes a pair of glasses horizontally. Kids just love putting them on their faces.
Back in the 80s, chocolate glasses became popular in Hong Kong though it was originated from Japan. Back then, kids enjoyed themes where heroes defeated villains. Kids wore the 8-shaped glasses as hero’s masks so that they could imagine themselves as brave fighters against evils. At that time, Japan had only just begun importing cocoa beans, which made chocolate prices high. Candy makers made it more affordable and fun for children by covering a small amount of chocolate with a sugary coating and marketed it as a playful toy.
