My journey into the world of vintage began with LOEWE, and I've been captivated ever since. It's now my favorite brand. Those who delve into vintage bags understand a simple truth: "old is gold." Most vintage bags boast exceptional quality, often surpassing modern new releases in craftsmanship and material. You can easily find discussions online, even on forums like PTT, lamenting the inconsistent quality of many contemporary designer bags. LOEWE, however, stands out. While there might be a slight dip in quality compared to their vintage pieces, they still maintain a commendable standard in their modern collections. This is largely due to their brand's focus on the inherent quality of leather and their innovative exploration of its potential, with designs that were truly ahead of their time.
Personally, I describe LOEWE as a brand that fearlessly pushes the boundaries of technical possibility from an artistic perspective, embracing bold innovation. Beyond their masterful use of the iconic Nappa leather (think of their small drawstring bags), there's this less common "Serpentine" series. The Serpentine series, oh my! Anyone deep in the vintage rabbit hole knows it. It's one of the most distinctive collections from LOEWE's vintage era. Simply put, this series was designed in the 1990s, a vibrant period marked by the Barcelona Olympics and World Expo, coinciding with Madrid being named the European Capital of Culture. LOEWE aimed to promote Spanish culture through this collection. Consequently, the designs are truly unique, and the possibility of a modern re-release is incredibly slim, making them essentially discontinued.
The entire Serpentine series features a combination of two distinctly different types of leather, often with daring color palettes that create a strong visual impact. Each Serpentine bag is a work of art! In recent years, with endorsements from Korean celebrities, the market value of these vintage pieces has steadily climbed, especially for smaller bags, which are becoming increasingly difficult to find. The blue-green hues are particularly rare within the "Golden Serpentine" line. By a stroke of luck, I've acquired a set of blue-green treasures in exceptionally good condition, making me ecstatic! This listing is for the most adorable "pumpkin" shaped bag, a petite style within the series that commands the highest market price. It's undeniably cute, but do be aware of its limited capacity – it's best suited for a few essentials like a small wallet, tissues, keys, and a mini hand sanitizer. A phone can be squeezed in, but it's a tight fit and difficult to retrieve, so it's best to leave it out. It comes with its original shoulder strap, allowing for single-shoulder or crossbody wear. However, its charm is truly maximized when carried by hand, its small size making it effortlessly comfortable. I personally collect Serpentine bags; they are simply irresistible! The quality of the Serpentine leather is superb, a must-have for any LOEWE enthusiast!
⚐⚑˒˒ The bag is in excellent condition, almost like new. It comes complete with its original long shoulder strap, dust bag, and authenticity card! The leather flap and the main body are made from two different types of leather. The flap has a subtle vertical grain texture with minor, barely noticeable signs of use. The leather of the bag itself is in perfect condition, with no discoloration or stains. Even the base, edges, and corners show no wear. The entire leather exterior is intact. The flap features a deep LOEWE embossed logo. Apart from the very light signs of wear on the flap, the rest of the bag shows virtually no signs of use. The interior is lined with embroidered satin featuring the brand name and logo; the striped lining is unique to the Serpentine series. The interior is like new. The interior zipper functions smoothly, and the zipper pull is a beautifully engraved brand name and logo. The original shoulder strap is pristine, with no visible signs of wear, discoloration, or stains. Most importantly, the "golden serpentine" hardware on the handle is exceptionally lustrous and shows no signs of gold plating loss or oxidation. The entire handle hardware is in superb golden condition. This is a rare find with all its original accessories! Overall, the bag is exceptionally clean. The signs of use are minimal, confined to the flap, and only noticeable upon close inspection. The Serpentine bags themselves are already quite pricey, and this "pumpkin" style is the most sought-after among the golden serpentine models. Once it's gone, it's gone forever!

My primary reason for loving vintage bags is that the materials from older eras are vastly superior to those used in modern new releases. In the past, most pre-owned items were handmade, imbued with the warmth of human touch rather than mass-produced by machines. The craftsmanship was undoubtedly more delicate than any machine could achieve, much like how people appreciate handcrafted items. Today, the majority of production relies on machinery with minimal human assembly, losing that exquisite detail of the past. A simple, direct comparison can be made by looking at the intricate details of vintage monogram patterns versus modern re-releases; the level of detail is simply worlds apart. If you appreciate monograms, seek out vintage pieces!
In terms of style, older designs were typically simpler, timeless, and enduring. Many current new designs are actually re-interpretations of older styles. However, new releases are priced significantly higher. Modern designs often build upon vintage foundations, adding details or altering the design, resulting in a final product that is usually more complex (or perhaps peculiar...) than its predecessors. As we mature, we realize that simplicity endures. Our wardrobes tend to gravitate towards basic pieces because they are the most versatile.
The quality of materials in older pieces is superior to newer ones. Anyone knowledgeable about leather can see that the materials used in new collections are often of a lower grade than those from vintage eras. This is mainly because the cost of high-quality raw materials is now prohibitively high, and their availability is scarcer than before, with global resources dwindling. Furthermore, brands back then didn't have the ubiquitous presence of numerous stores they do today. Their clientele typically had a certain level of income and specific expectations for their purchases. There wasn't the "fast fashion" culture of today; a bag was expected to last for many years.
The difference between new and old hardware is striking. Many new bags' hardware oxidizes and discolors within a year or two of use. Vintage pieces, however, typically do not. This is due to both the superior quality of materials and meticulous craftsmanship. In earlier eras, hardware was often plated with genuine 18K gold. It's worth noting that Chanel Vintage is expensive for a reason; many of their clasps and chains contain real gold, certified by gold merchants! This is why vintage bags from the 1960s and 70s, if well-preserved, can still have gleaming hardware today. Among the new products available now, to my knowledge, none of the hardware contains K-gold, making them prone to oxidation.
Many people consider buying vintage bags a form of alternative investment, as they rarely depreciate and often appreciate in value. The market for well-preserved vintage bags is shrinking, with fewer becoming available over time. Remember, each of these pieces is discontinued; the number that exists is the total number in existence, meaning they will only become rarer, more expensive, and harder to find. Additionally, as brands periodically increase their prices, this often drives up the market value of vintage pieces. If a brand releases a "reissue," the original vintage reference or similar styles will see a sharp price increase! Moreover, with the recent popularity of vintage items among Korean and Japanese celebrities, the price of a bag once used by a celebrity can skyrocket almost instantly. During such periods, many people will frantically search for that specific model or a similar alternative, causing the prices of those few items to multiply... Therefore, vintage is truly about enjoying it sooner rather than later; buying later means paying more (this isn't an advertising slogan... it's a truth in the vintage world...). This is my personal experience; I regret not entering the market earlier for many collections, as they are now impossible to find or available only at exorbitant prices. Yet, even knowing the price is astronomical, one is compelled to purchase, as waiting will only lead to higher prices (unless the condition is poor).
I am often asked about bag maintenance (ᐢ.ˬ.ᐢ). I will include small care instructions inside the bag, so don't worry. My personal routine is to give them a polish when I organize my closet during seasonal changes (which makes seasonal cleaning quite a project...|||). Vintage bags aren't particularly high-maintenance; getting into vintage simply requires getting used to regular care and cherishing your bag. Once it becomes a habit, it's not difficult. Vintage bags are made from inherently excellent materials. As long as they are not used roughly and are stored properly, they can easily last another decade and be passed down to your daughter! Each vintage bag I collect is one I genuinely love, and I hope you will cherish it and preserve it for years to come ☪︎ *.。
