Care
When displayed indoors under normal conditions, it will not easily lose its shape. If left for extended periods or in humid environments, the texture may soften slightly, but it will retain its form.
Please avoid direct sunlight, which can cause fading. Do not immerse in water, wash, or wipe with alcohol.
If the surface becomes soiled, gently dab with a damp cloth or use adhesive tape to lift the dirt. Avoid excessive dabbing.
Mizuhiki (Gan Weaving Creation)
Early on, the name came from the process of treating hemp ropes with water.
Now, it is made from fine threads twisted from Japanese paper, a material with elasticity and support.
Depending on the surface treatment, such as dyeing, lacquering, or silk wrapping, it can achieve a wide variety of colors and luster, possessing the resilience of metal wire and the elasticity of traditional fibers.
Originating from decorative knots that existed since the Sui Dynasty, it became popular during the Asuka period through trade and diplomatic exchanges between Japan and China. Today, it has evolved into a traditional Japanese knotting craft that incorporates blessings, symbolizing the most sincere wishes when giving a gift. Mizuhiki embodies the artisan's intentions, weaving various shapes with cords, where different knot shapes symbolize different blessings.
"Mizuhiki" is not just a knot; it represents the beautiful connection between the giver and the receiver.
