We endeavor to avoid these during the cutting process or place such areas on less visible or non-stress-bearing parts of the product. 2. Pure Hand-Stitching Our products are not made with sewing machines; all items are meticulously hand-stitched. Before stitching, special diamond chisels are used to punch stitch holes into the leather, creating the distinctive wavy stitch pattern that sets our work apart from machine sewing. While this significantly increases production time, it is a crucial step where the leather artisan imbues the piece with soul and a warm, tactile feel. 3. Hand-Burnished Edges Before finishing, the leather edges are burnished and sealed. This process ensures the edges appear smooth, rounded, and natural. "Tangent Linear" employs its own unique edge-finishing method. First, sandpaper is used to repeatedly smooth any sharp edges. Then, an edge-sealing liquid is applied to create a flat surface, a process repeated 2-3 times. Finally, an edge-sealing wax is applied, followed by vigorous polishing with a burnishing tool until the edges achieve a smooth finish. 4. Hand-Dyed Leather For its hand-dyed products, "Tangent Linear" uses imported Fiebing's leather alcohol dyes from the United States. To achieve a uniform and natural coloration, we begin by slightly dampening the leather surface. The dye is then applied layer by layer with a sponge, gradually deepening the color until the desired shade is reached. After drying, a color-fixing agent is applied to enhance colorfastness. The surface is also treated with water to wipe away any surface dust and further even out the color. As each piece is hand-dyed, subtle variations exist between the colors of each bag, making every item unique.
