Even though I already have many in my wardrobe, I still buy new ones every year! Since I fell into the vintage rabbit hole, besides bags and small accessories, I also keep an eye out for scarves. This is because vintage styles are generally more timeless, and their prices are invariably more affordable than modern pieces... Unfortunately, finding a vintage scarf that is both desirable and in good condition is actually much harder than finding a bag! After all, textiles are more difficult to maintain in pristine condition compared to leather. Therefore, I can only acquire a few vintage scarves each year... So, if you're looking for a vintage scarf, seize the opportunity when you see one, as it's almost impossible to find the same style or color again. ⚐⚑˒˒ This is an Italian-made pure wool shawl scarf. It's lightweight with high-quality wool, not too thick, making it suitable for the climate in Hong Kong and Taiwan. Made in Italy, it's also reversible, featuring a dual color combination of khaki and coffee brown that can be worn on either side. This color palette is suitable for both men and women. The entire scarf is adorned with a full pattern of the Arc de Triomphe. Although it's a vintage item, its condition is excellent. There are no particularly noticeable flaws, only a slight sense of use. Overall, the scarf is free from snagging, loose threads, discoloration, or pilling. The original brand tag is still attached. As everyone knows, typical brand scarves are not inexpensive, and CELINE no longer offers simple styles like this or special colors. There is only one of each scarf style available. Most vintage items from the past were handmade, imbued with the warmth of craftsmanship before the widespread use of machines. The artisanal skill of major brands is many times more refined than that of machines, with each step meticulously crafted! However, nowadays, most processes are automated by machinery and then assembled by hand. Machine-made components lack the same level of detail. A direct and clear comparison can be made by examining the monograms on recently reissued vintage-style pieces versus authentic vintage ones from older eras. The subtlety and intricacy of the monogram patterns alone reveal a significant difference. If you love monograms, seek out vintage pieces! Truly! In terms of style, vintage pieces from older eras are simpler, timeless, and enduring. Many current new designs are actually replicas of older styles. However, new models are priced higher than vintage ones. Moreover, new designs are typically based on older styles with added or altered elements. Ultimately, the design becomes more complex than in the past. As you grow older, you realize that simplicity endures! The quality of raw materials in older models is also superior to newer ones. Anyone familiar with leather can tell that the materials used in new products are generally inferior to older ones. This is primarily because the cost and scarcity of high-quality raw materials are high today, and brands back then had very high standards for their finished products. The difference between new and old can be most easily observed in the hardware. The hardware on many new models oxidizes and discolors after just one or two years of use. However, this is typically not the case with older models. Besides the superior materials and meticulous craftsmanship, hardware from earlier eras was often plated with genuine K-gold! Therefore, even vintage bags produced in the 60s and 70s still retain their brilliant shine today! Among the new products available now, to my knowledge, none of the hardware from any brand uses K-gold. Many people consider vintage bags a unique form of investment; they rarely depreciate and often appreciate in value. This is because the number of vintage bags in good condition on the market is decreasing, making them rarer and thus more expensive over time. Furthermore, certain brands periodically increase their prices, and each increase drives up the market price for vintage pieces. In recent years, celebrities in Japan and Korea have favored vintage items, causing the prices of certain models to skyrocket after being seen on them. Alternatively, if a brand releases its own updated version or reissue of a design, the price of the same or similar styles will increase dramatically! Therefore, vintage items truly offer "buy early, enjoy longer; buy late, pay more" (this isn't an advertising slogan... it's a truth in the vintage world...). This is based on personal experience; I regret not getting into the vintage scene earlier for many collections, as they are now either impossible to find or prohibitively expensive when found. For vintage bag orders, a leather care oil is included as an extra gift (ᐢ.ˬ.ᐢ). I use it myself, so I decant a small amount into a separate container as a gift. Apply a small amount to genuine leather to clean and add moisture. However, it's not necessary to apply it after every use; periodically is sufficient. I usually tend to my bags for maintenance when I'm organizing my closet at the change of seasons (which makes seasonal changes quite a project for me... |||). The leather of vintage bags is inherently excellent. As long as they are not used roughly and are stored properly, they can easily last another decade and be passed down to your daughter!
