"Kumako's Coffee Pilgrimage" - Japan's Traditional Coffee Shops Series
While staying at a hostel in Sanjo, Kyoto, I loved discovering charming little shops on my walks back each day. The streets here have a more serene atmosphere, and this particular coffee shop was right on my daily route. My travel companion and I set aside a day specifically to stroll over and have breakfast there.
A waitress in uniform led us to a window seat with excellent natural light. The Western-style decor spoke of a long-standing heritage, and the branded red coffee pot logo on the cutlery and napkins was so classically charming!
Here's the highlight:
Although I loved the window seat, looking further inside revealed a hidden gem. The counter area, depicted as if in a painting, immediately captivated my attention.
Skilled baristas, dressed in white uniforms and black bow ties, expertly brewed coffee using cloth filters. Steam wafted continuously around the counter area. Local residents sat around the counter, enjoying their coffee and reading newspapers. Ah, I truly loved the everyday scene unfolding before me – it had such a wonderful sense of ritual, like a true Kyoto morning!
