Marbling refers to the combination of different colored clays. Patterns are created by piecing together different colored clays into a long cylinder, much like a decorative sushi roll. Slicing this cylinder yields multiple pieces of clay with similar patterns, which are then shaped into bowls. Vessels made using the marbling technique possess unique characteristics. The pattern appears on both the front and back surfaces. Due to the marbling method, the patterns undergo natural deformation during the creation process, such as stretching and twisting, as if the patterns themselves are wriggling!
Made with Japanese porcelain clay, fired at 1230 degrees Celsius.
