Koishiwara Ware, Okiyo Kiln, Rim Plate, Large 24.5cm, Brushstroke Glaze, Medium - Plates & Trays - Pottery White

Product Description

The beautiful harmony of brushstrokes and flying chisel marks. A versatile rimmed platter that elevates your dishes like art. This 24.5cm rimmed platter showcases the skilled craftsmanship of Koishiwara-yaki's Okiyo Kiln and a modern sensibility. At the center (nakashiro), swirling “brush marks” (hakeme) created by applying white clay with a brush are depicted. Beneath these, delicate patterns from the traditional “tobikanna” technique subtly show through. Its subdued, matte texture gently envelops any dish, Japanese or Western. ■ The Reliable “24.5cm” for Entertaining This large plate measures approximately 24.5cm in diameter. It's perfect for plating up a generous main dish of meat or fish, or for serving a variety of side dishes on one plate. It also excels as a serving bowl or platter for sharing salads and dishes at home parties. ■ The “Rim” Design for Beautiful Presentation The eye-catching striped pattern on the rim frames your food like a picture frame, creating a crisp, defined look. Simply placing food in the center naturally creates white space, achieving a restaurant-quality presentation. It also prevents sauces and liquids from spilling over, a practical bonus. ■ The Artistry of Handcrafting: Two Distinct Faces The surface features a bright, soft white base. Turn it over to reveal a deep, dark gray base adorned with the stunning “Sōhikana” technique. Simply washing and storing it upside down creates a picturesque display. Enjoy this piece, showcasing masterful craftsmanship, at your daily table. ■Please note that actual colors may differ from photos due to monitor settings. ◇Product Details◇ ●Size: Diameter approx. 24.5cm × Height approx. 2.5cm ●Material: Koishiwara clay ●Specifications: Microwave safe, dishwasher safe, oven safe ※Not suitable for direct flame ●Pottery: Koishiwara ware ●Place of Production: Higashimine Village, Fukuoka Prefecture ●Artisan: Okiyo Kiln Naoyuki Onimaru 1977 Born in Koishiwara Village (now Higashimine Village), Asakura District, Fukuoka Prefecture 1999 Entered Tokyo University of the Arts, Faculty of Fine Arts, Department of Crafts 2003 Graduated from the same university, received the Ataka Prize 2005 Completed Master's Program in Ceramics, Graduate School of Fine Arts, Tokyo University of the Arts Graduation work: “Blue-White Porcelain Jar with Bamboo-Leaf Carved Pattern” Awarded the Salon de Printemps Prize 2005: Entered the Doctoral Program, Graduate School of Fine Arts, Tokyo University of the Arts 2008: Presented doctoral dissertation “Research on the Production of Blue-White Porcelain Utilizing Carved Patterns” Awarded Doctorate (Fine Arts) No. 218 2009: Began pottery production at Okiyo Kiln Selected for the Western Traditional Crafts Exhibition 2010: Selected for the Western Crafts Exhibition Selected for the West Japan Ceramic Art Exhibition First selection for the Japan Traditional Crafts Exhibition Special Jury Prize, Present Form Ceramics Hagi Grand Prize Exhibition 2010 Selected for the 4th Kikuchi Biennale 2011 Selected for the Japan Ceramic Art Exhibition Selected for the Western Crafts Exhibition Encouragement Award Selected for the Kyushu Yamaguchi Ceramics Exhibition Asahi Shimbun Award Selected for the 9th International Ceramics Festival Mino Bronze Award Selected for the Japan Traditional Crafts Exhibition 2012 Selected for the Western Traditional Crafts Exhibition Japan Crafts Association Award Selected for “Contemporary Tea Ceremony” (Kikuchi Satoshi Museum of Art) Work acquired by the Cernuschi Museum Grand Prize, West Japan Ceramic Art Exhibition Selected, Japan Traditional Crafts Exhibition Blue-White Porcelain Faceted Bowl “Ryo” purchased by the Imperial Household Agency Selected, 5th Kikuchi Biennale 2013: Selected, Japan Ceramic Art Exhibition Selected, Kyushu Yamaguchi Ceramics Exhibition Finalist, Faenza International Ceramics Exhibition Asahi Culture Center Award, Western Traditional Crafts Exhibition Selected, Japan Traditional Crafts Exhibition Runner-up Grand Prize, Hagi Grand Prize Exhibition 2013: Contemporary Ceramics Certified as Full Member, Japan Craft Association
