"The more local, the more fashionable."
Bao-Zhi bag, originally named 'Ga-Zhi' (Taiwanese pronunciation, sounds like 'ga-gi'), also known as 'Ga-Jian-Zai' or 'Jiao-Jian-Zai', is a type of Taiwanese tote bag. The name originates from the Japanese word 'kagiami,' referring to its weaving technique. Legend has it that the Bao-Zhi bag originated in Jingliao Village, Houbi District, Tainan City. Initially hand-woven from蔺草 (藺草), with Taiwan's industrialization, it evolved into the commonly seen three-color nylon mesh fabric. Due to its soft texture, waterproof and wear-resistant properties, and affordability, it has become a must-buy local specialty for many tourists visiting Taiwan.
