⟨The Ding Wheel⟩
In ancient times, the Ding, due to its substantial weight, was considered a vessel of state and a symbol of power.
During the Zhou Dynasty, with the flourishing of rituals and music, the patriarchal system emphasized: "Let the ruler be a ruler, the minister be a minister, the father be a father, and the son be a son." In this societal atmosphere, the system of tiered Dings emerged, signifying the hierarchical status of individuals.
*Gongyang Zhuan - Year 2 of Duke Huan*: "Rituals dictated nine Dings for the Son of Heaven, seven for feudal lords, five for high officials, and three for lower officials."
While we no longer have the deeply hierarchical patriarchal system of antiquity, we can still appreciate the refined elegance and Confucian sophistication of the Western Zhou aristocracy through the meticulously carved patterns on the Ding Wheel and its weight, which is as substantial and grounding as an ancient Ding.
This 2020 re-mastered version, enhanced with 3D technology and artisanal craftsmanship, elevates the details and brings this "work of art" to a new level of quality.
