While this process significantly extends production time, it is a crucial step where leather artisans imbue each piece with its soul and a warm, tactile feel. 3. Hand-Burnished Edges Before completion, the edges of the leather are carefully burnished and sealed. This meticulous process results in smooth, rounded, and natural-looking edges. "Cut Line" employs a unique edge-finishing technique. First, sandpaper is used to repeatedly smooth any sharp edges. Then, an edge-sealing liquid is applied to create a flat surface, repeated 2-3 times. Finally, edge wax is applied and burnished with a polishing tool until the edges achieve a lustrous finish. 4. Hand-Dyed Leather For our hand-dyed items, "Cut Line" utilizes Fiebing's leather alcohol dyes imported from the United States. To achieve a uniform and natural coloration, the leather surface is first dampened with water. Dye is then applied layer by layer with a sponge, gradually deepening the hue until the desired shade is reached. Once dry, a color-fixative is applied to enhance colorfastness. A light application of water is then used to wipe the surface, removing any dust and further evening out the color. As each piece is hand-dyed, subtle variations in color will exist between individual bags, making each one unique.
