Produced by the French Gilbert & Blanzy-Poure nib factory in the 1950s.
The Multifold was specifically designed for extensive writing (transcribing) applications.
To accommodate such use, it's crafted from a special alloy, offering stability rather than elasticity.
It won't scratch the paper even with firm pressure, making it ideal for use with carbon copy paper (up to six sheets of plain paper with five sheets of carbon paper).
The nib has a strong ink-holding capacity to enhance writing efficiency.
Because it doesn't scratch, it's also very suitable for Chinese writing.
For drawing, it can produce lines with consistent thickness.
It is not suitable for English calligraphy requiring line variation.
The reference photos use Lamy fountain pen ink (not shellac ink) and Double A copy paper.
Differences between vintage and modern nibs:
Thicker metal for robust construction and finer craftsmanship.
Made from original metal (not plated), easy to start writing with, requiring no extended break-in period.
Superior ink capacity, offering greater durability.
Important Usage Notes:
1. No need for flame treatment or vigorous brushing before use.
2. Some nibs may have original horizontal or vertical marks on the shoulder; these were factory-made to ensure immediate usability upon purchase and are not defects.
3. If oil contamination affects ink adhesion or flow (e.g., from touching with hands or wax on paper), a simple wash with soap, followed by drying, will restore performance.
4. Clean and dry the nib promptly after use. Allow it to air dry before storing to prevent rust.
5. Minor corrosion on the pen body does not affect writing; corrosion on the nib itself will impact its performance.
Vintage nibs are discontinued and no longer in production. What is offered are new old stock collectibles, available until sold out.
Each item will be thoroughly inspected before shipping. Any items with defects will not be shipped.
