It’s an invitation for art to be more than just appreciated—it becomes a tangible, beautiful experience. | Inspired by Katsushika Hokusai's "The Great Wave off Kanagawa" from the U.S. Library of Congress Collection Katsushika Hokusai (Japanese: 葛飾 北斎/Katsushika Hokusai, October 31, 1760 – May 10, 1849), born Tokitaro Nakajima, was born in Edo (present-day Tokyo) in 1760. He was a prominent Ukiyo-e artist during Japan's late Edo period and a representative figure of Japanese culture during the Bunka-Keicho era. He began learning woodblock printing at the age of 14 and started studying painting under the Ukiyo-e artist Katsukawa Shunsho at 18, embarking on his long and prolific artistic career. In 1826, to support the burgeoning domestic tourism in Japan and driven by his personal affection for Mount Fuji, Hokusai created the landscape series "Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji." This series propelled him to fame, with "Fine Wind, Clear Morning" (Red Fuji) and "The Great Wave off Kanagawa" becoming his most celebrated works. His daughter, Katsushika Oi, was also a renowned painter. Born in the village of Katsushika in the eastern suburbs of Edo, Hokusai was later adopted by a family of mirror polishers. In his youth, he worked as an apprentice in a lending library, delivering books. He pursued painting illustrations in his spare time, studying under artists like Katsukawa Shunsho and Tawaraya Sōri. He began publishing his works at 19 and passed away at the age of 90, leaving behind an estimated 35,000 works throughout his lifetime. | Specifications Dimensions: H25.7 × W36.4 × D0.1 cm Packaging Material: OPP Bag Product Material: Art Paper Quantity: 1 piece Origin: Taiwan
