In Hong Kong, a place with limited land and a rapid pace of urban development, few historical buildings have managed to be preserved. Yet, looking back, whether these structures have vanished or endured, they reveal a rich tapestry of architectural styles. More importantly, they serve as testaments to the evolving social and economic structures of Hong Kong across different eras, as well as the diversity of its ethnic groups, religions, and cultures. Drawing upon various historical documents and images, Dr. Wong Tai-choi has redrawn Hong Kong's historical architecture from different domains between 1841 and 1997. This endeavor serves both to document the aesthetic qualities of these architectural heritage sites and to supplement the specific details of Hong Kong's social development over more than a century. 1.
