The white glazed surface, adorned with delicate golden speckles, exudes a fresh and elegant charm. With use, the glaze will develop a unique crackle pattern, enhancing its personal character.
The glaze used is Shino, originating from Mino, Japan, characterized by a white glaze primarily composed of feldspar. The artist has applied a custom-blended Shino glaze to the piece, resulting in a warm, soft, and richly layered finish after firing.
The white Shino-style glaze is achieved by applying the white glaze to bisque-fired ware, followed by precise control of the kiln temperature and the degree of high-temperature reduction to produce a finish as warm as jade. When applied over rock mineral or black clay bodies, it resembles a dusting of white snow or light frost.
The smooth interior glaze, fired with Shino glaze, will continuously develop fine cracks through contact with tea, forming a "gold thread and iron wire" crackle pattern. As you drink tea daily, the tea color will gradually seep into these lines; the crackles become visible in about a month, and after two to three months, the coloration becomes even more pronounced, creating a unique patina exclusive to your piece.
The final gilding process features hand-painted 24K liquid gold (genuine gold), which is then kiln-fired. The golden luster is warm and understated, shimmering with the play of light.
Works from yuhuayuart are dedicated to those who cherish details and appreciate the quality of life, making every tea-drinking moment more than just a simple action—it is a continuation of enjoyment and taste.
Purchase Notes
1. Every piece from yuhuayuart is handmade by the artist, ensuring each is unique—this is the very charm of handcrafted pottery.
2. Each work is one-of-a-kind; once sold, no identical piece is available. If an item you admire has been sold, feel free to inquire via private message about similar styles.
3. During the firing process, the glaze flows and distributes naturally, and subtle crackles may occur due to temperature changes; these are characteristic of kiln-fired works. Please feel free to reach out with any questions.
4. All works are photographed in a studio to best represent their original colors. Please note that actual colors may vary slightly, and such variations are not considered defects.
Care Instructions | Gold-Gilded Works
Lightly wipe the gold layer with a soft cloth. Avoid using abrasive sponges or hard-bristled brushes, and do not soak in cleaning agents for extended periods. Do not place in a microwave (as the metal may cause sparks) or a dishwasher to prevent the gold layer from wearing or flaking off.
Artist | Teacher Yu Hua-Yu
Born in 1980, he became deeply drawn to wheel-thrown pottery during junior high school. After completing his military service, he moved to Yingge and apprenticed under masters Wu Kuo-Jung and Wu Chien-Tsai, dedicating over twenty years to ceramic creation. He has developed the Yohen Shino, rock mineral, and purple clay cloud-mist series, and successfully recreated the ceramic firing techniques of the Song Dynasty.
Creative Philosophy
Teacher Yu centers his creative process on kiln transformation, believing that every piece is a collaborative creation between the potter and the user across time and space. Each crack and layer of color evolves with the user's daily life, becoming a vessel of true functional beauty, turning tea appreciation into a continued experience of enjoyment and refined taste.
