Naoko Nakanishi
A renowned illustrator and culinary artist from Japan. She is known for her animal-themed artwork, characterized by its simple and pure essence. Following the Great East Japan Earthquake in 2011, Ms. Nakanishi pondered how she could offer support. A friend suggested she create one drawing a day as a gift to soothe the hearts of those affected by the disaster, which had left them feeling deeply wounded and unable to recover. Over time, in 2013, Naoko Nakanishi held touring exhibitions of these artworks throughout Japan.
The tabby cat, BonBon, is a character Ms. Nakanishi began creating in 2007 and is the most frequent subject in her work. This brown tabby cat enjoys visiting markets, cooking, and traveling. BonBon comes to life amidst the various paper materials Ms. Nakanishi collects, his humorous and witty demeanor often bringing a smile and helping one forget their worries.
