The Pie Box

【Book Description】 In this city, there are ordinary people who excel at hiding themselves, wearing masks to pretend they live a quiet life, passing you by at every intersection. If you pause to look closely, might you recognize some of them, the unease and exhaustion beneath their faces? Miha's debut short story collection, "The Pie Box," features six previously unpublished tales, exploring these nameless individuals, their peculiarities, their pain, and their uncertainty. In her preface, writer Chan Wai points out the keen sensitivity in Miha's fiction to the subtle disquiet of everyday life: "Father and son, love hovering on the edge of loss and obsolescence, human pride and arrogance, personal gains and losses, honor and shame… these are all the minute details of life, like chance encounters down unfamiliar alleyways or into shadowed corners. Some are light, and slow; the themes are not necessarily complex. You could easily pretend not to see them, but then, suddenly, something happens, and you feel a tremor." Six stories, six ordinary individuals. "The Pie Box" dissects the hidden vulnerabilities we all carry under the sun. 【Author Introduction】 Miha Real name Ho Kin Chung, currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Humanities and Creative Writing at Hong Kong Baptist University.
