Shopkeeper's Note:
I've been envisioning ways to transform this wonderful Sacred Wood into a more diverse range of items to share with you all. This led to the creation of this Sacred Wood craft series. These pieces can be used as decorative ornaments, or with a simple cord, they can be hung on your person, bag, or car – offering versatile uses!
When selecting the wood, I've made every effort to choose pieces with beautiful grain patterns. Each piece is naturally unvarnished and entirely natural. Therefore, expect variations in natural wood grain and minor imperfections (though we strive to select complete pieces).
Please consider carefully before purchasing if these variations are a concern. Your support for Taiwanese craft creators is greatly appreciated!
About Inca Sacred Wood:
Inca Sacred Wood, known as "Palo Santo," has been used by indigenous peoples of the Americas for millennia in sacred rituals. Its significance to these cultures is profound. Lesser-grade wood is burned in ceremonies to purify spaces and connect with the spirit world. Medium-grade wood is crafted into ceremonial staffs and scepters. The highest quality Sacred Wood is even revered and not harvested, treated as an object of worship for deities.
In Peru, Palo Santo is designated as a national sacred tree, and its harvesting is strictly regulated. Only a select few companies possess legal permits for sustainable harvesting.
The name "Palo Santo" translates to "holy wood" in South America, a fitting designation as it transforms itself into something sacred and medicinal from birth to death. Typically, a Palo Santo tree lives for 80-90 years before it dies. At this stage, it must remain intact for 4-10 years to complete its natural transformation process. Only through this complete cycle does the full efficacy of the Palo Santo develop. For thousands of years, Sacred Wood has been used by shamans and healers in Peru and Ecuador. Even today, you can still witness its use in rituals by shamans and healers in the Andes mountains, where it is more prevalent.
Beyond burning for its aroma, Sacred Wood is also used by tying it with red thread and placing it in bags or on one's person, or even making it into necklaces to wear. This product
