The Gentiana, as its name suggests, carries a meaning of bitterness.
It thrives in open, sun-drenched areas above mid-to-high altitudes, on scree slopes, or in forests.
Flowering from April to September, the Gentiana is highly sensitive to sunlight;
its blossoms close when clouds gather, signaling a change in weather.
According to a specimen collected by Takumi Kawakami on July 10, 1933, its location was designated as Zhushan in the Alishan mountain range.
However, it was actually collected along the path from Alishan to Yushan, and is not found in Alishan itself.
