Mishima refers to the combination of different colored clays, where patterns are meticulously assembled with distinct clays into a long cylindrical form, akin to a beautifully arranged sushi roll. When sliced, this log yields several pieces revealing similar motifs, which are then artfully shaped into a dish. Vessels crafted using the Mishima technique possess a unique charm. The patterns are visible on both sides, and due to the nature of the Mishima process, the designs undergo organic transformations during creation—from patting and rolling—resulting in naturally occurring distortions, a charming asymmetry and fluidity that makes the patterns seem to dance.
Crafted using Japanese porcelain clay and fired at 1230 degrees Celsius.
